On Tuesday 20 October China released its third-quarter 2026 gross domestic product figures, showing year-on-year growth between 4.3% and 4.6%. South Korea followed on Wednesday 28 October with a reported expansion of 2.5% to 2.9% for the same period. On Friday 30 October the Eurozone posted growth of 0.8% to 1.1%, Germany recorded just above 1.3%, and Mexico announced a rise of 2.5% to 3.0%.

The Chinese data placed the economy on a trajectory of roughly 4.5% expansion, a pace that exceeded many advanced economies. The release came after earlier reports of mixed performance in domestic consumption and export activity.

South Korea's statistics office reported third-quarter growth between 2.5% and 2.9%, confirming a moderate rebound. The result aligns with the country's recent export-driven momentum.

The Eurozone's aggregate output grew between 0.8% and 1.1% in the third quarter, indicating a slowdown relative to prior periods. Germany, the bloc's largest economy, posted growth just above 1.3%, marginally higher than the euro area average.

Mexico's national institute published a third-quarter growth range of 2.5% to 3.0% on Friday. The figure placed the Latin American economy ahead of the euro area but below China's pace. The data completed the set of major economy releases for the quarter.

Analysis

China's near-5% quarterly expansion suggests that export-led growth remains a key driver, even as domestic consumption and investment lag behind expectations. The modest gap between the lower and upper bounds of the range points to some uncertainty in the underlying data, but the overall tempo is still higher than most peers, which could sustain demand for commodities and support global trade flows.

Such sluggishness may keep the European Central Bank cautious about tightening monetary policy, as policymakers balance low inflation pressures against the risk of stalling the modest recovery.

The country's performance sits between the faster-growing Chinese economy and the slower euro zone, positioning it as a potential growth engine for regional supply chains.

The result may attract foreign investors seeking higher returns than those available in Europe, while also exposing Mexico to external demand cycles.
